"It's Lieutenant Seabrook, officer," I said, reaching into my pocket. My toes wiggled in my shoes. Why did they feel bare? Like I had forgotten to wear my nylons. Surely I put those on. I pulled out my ID.
He took it and frowned. "The... United States Space Force?"
I nodded. "And it's classified. I have to speak with a student here. Calista Santiago. She left, I think. I..." My mind grew hazy. I remember looking for her, but... How did I end up in my car asleep?
"Right, right, classified," he said. "I'm going to have to get my sergeant down here."
I sighed. "Right, right," I muttered. "Fine." This wasn't going well at all. I couldn't believe I had fallen asleep. I was up all night and... Why did my body feel all tingly? Like pins and needles. My head throbbed, too.
And there was this strange taste in my mouth.
As the cop called for his sergeant, I grabbed my phone to check my notes and... It was gone. My notes. My photos. Everything that I had gathered. My brow furrowed. No, no, that wasn't possible, was it?
Then it hit me.
"Missing time," I whispered. "I... I must have run into the alien. She got to me. Tried to erase my memory. Throw me off the trail."
I smiled. The hunt was far, far from over.
