Excellent Piece

In very short order you have moved into an elite category among writers on this site. This was an excellent piece and I look forward to more of the same as I work through all your stories. I will say more when through them. Thank you

A most enjoyable story!

Thank you for this most enjoyable story!

Just a little nit to pick: please change ephemeral to ethereal.

Trust me, I should know, I am Greek after all.

Excellent

Just discovered you , then this fine tale very well done.

The characters are either very very nice, or the opposite, that's the only critism

Very enjoyable

This story wasn't necessarily what I expected, but I greatly enjoyed reading it. It reminded me of books like Ivanhoe and The Black Arrow, as well as Roin Hood.

Well played Sir, well played.

We know what we are, but know not what we may be. A surprising place to find this particular story. Enjoyed it. Overthefalls

An unexpected gem

Though I have read a fair amount of your stories, and do enjoy them, this one caught me a bit by surprise. I didn't expect the story to go through all the stages it did - started off as a buddy story, then a Lord sending his son on a quest, then we find out it was Mom all along - and what a wonderful person she turns out to be! As always, an excellent job of writing for your characters. You make them so real, so "human", so interesting, the reader just wants to continue until the end of the story. A compelling story.

I enjoyed this fanciful tale written by a ranconteur of fine tales! Thank you, Mike

A fine tale

Few bards could spin a yarn as well, with characters rich and story compelling.

I nodded and smiled often and finished with a grin - no higher praise can I offer.

Magnificent

Thank you for sharing your wonderful writing. As so many others have said- it was a pleasant surprise.

I hope you continue writing and find a much wider audience. If you ever do, please drop a note here. I for one wouldn't mind paying for the pleasure.

Good luck

Love, true & beyond time.

Alas!! it remains only in such tales of yore.

Wonderfully written SF, I enjoyed it. The language & descriptions of a world & life gone by was perfectly done.

A bag of 5 golden stars is your just reward. :-).

What a great story!

Love, romance, drama, a period piece without going overboard.

Just enough intrigue to keep it interesting.

thanks

Read it twice now

Have just re-read this story and enjoyed it every bit as much as the first time. I like the pace, the characters, the storyline and the treatment of the Era feels authentic. I feel it could be made into a full novel fleshing out the intervening years, the rescue of Jacob & Rebecca, the warring adventures, temptations along the way then new stories with his wife, his son and maybe more children as well. It is one of the few stories I've given 5 stars to on this site. Hope to see you continue to write.

Would that I could,

I would gladly gladly award twenty stars for this tale. As others have written, it begs expansion. Kindly consider doing so, good sir.

The sequel, and second in the series is "The Archer's Apprentice" in Novels and Novellas, which continues Robin, Will and Alwen's lives one year or so on.. It is a "romance" but also a transition between 2 romances, with plenty of cross references. I have started the final book of the trilogy but only have a prologue and an opening chapter so far. Let me know what you think of "Apprentice", please.

The Third Book in the series

"The Archer's Lady" is now submitted under "Novels and Novellas", which should publish in a day or two. It continues with many of the old characters, with the two principles being Robin Archer, son of Will Archer and the Lady Elinor, daughter of King Henry.

Excellent Tale of Old

I was looking for just this type of story. I enjoy reading well told yarns such as this. Well done, Sir Bard, well done. 5+ stars, if I could give.

Excellent!

I love these kinds of stories! I love the language and the plot! You've done a great job! Keep it up!

Nicely done. A story of medieval times with a man, pure of heart, as the main character.

Does the old heart proud in a modern world full of deceit and usury.
